There are a variety of reasons you may choose to talk with a professional about your personal issues and/or growth. People typically see a psychologist because they are struggling with something that they would like to discuss with someone who is unbiased and impartial, someone who is not going to judge them regarding their difficulties. Psychologists are bound by confidentiality, which means that unless you are a danger to yourself or others, or if you have knowledge of on-going child abuse (or the abuse of a dependent), than what you say in the therapy room stays in the therapy room. This usually makes it much easier to discuss your issues.
Going to therapy does not mean that you are “crazy”; quite the opposite, it means that you are acknowledging a struggle in your life and that you are willing to receive help with it, rather than letting it get worse. It takes strength and courage to go and talk to a psychologist, but the rewards are usually worth the risk of telling someone else about your life. Most importantly, psychologists are trained to help people with a wide variety of difficulties, including issues such as:
abuse healing: sexual, physical, verbal, emotional

anxiety / panic / phobia
attention deficit

chronic pain / medical stressors

If you would like to discuss your current interest and/or need for therapy through an initial phone consultation, please give me a call at 317.650.0851. This brief, initial phone call is not a therapy session and you will not be charged for it. It is a way for you to decide whether you would like to schedule an appointment, and a way for me to learn about you to see if I am the right person to help you. If I am not the right person for you to work with, I will assist you in finding a professional in the area who may be better able to serve you.
